Walter Gehr
Walter Gehr was born in 1962 in Vienna, Austria. After having lived nine years in France, he made his secondary studies at the Lycée Français de Vienne.

In 1985 he finished his law studies at the University of Vienna. After his military service and several functions in the private sector, he started a diplomatic career with the Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Austria.

Since 1997 he is deputy director of the department of general
international law of the Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs and
heads within this department the unit responsible for international economic and environmental law.

Walter Gehr is President of the Assembly of States of the International Development Law Institute ( IDLI ). In 2000 and 2001 he was member of the Austrian delegation to the Legal Committee of the General Assembly of the United Nations (Sixth Committee).
